RYA Advanced Powerboat
Course content: Preparation for sea, boat handling, passage making and responsibility as skipper, pilotage, meteorology, rules of the road, use of engines, emergency situations, night cruising.
Pre-course experience: Candidates should be competent to the standard of the Intermediate Powerboat Certificate.
Assumed knowledge: A thorough knowledge of the navigation and chartwork to the level of Coastal Skipper/RYA Yachtmaster Shorebased certificate. It is strongly recommended that candidates hold a first aid certificate and a VHF operators certificate.
Ability after the course: Able to plan and execute coastal trips and return to a familiar port by night.
Duration: 2 days, 1 night (exact timings may vary depending on time of year)
Group size: 3:1 Instructor
Restrictions: Participants must be confident in open water.
Age: Minimum age 17
(If any of the participants are under 18 years of age the parent or guardian must sign on their behalf on the booking form.)
Clothing required: Please bring with you suitable clothing for the time of year and weather conditions. Jeans and Wellington boots are not suitable and you will not be permitted to take part wearing these items. Footwear is NOT provided and you are required to bring trainers or aqua shoes to wear.Showers and changing facilities are provided on site.
Special information: West Wales Wind Surf and Sailing is situated within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and there is plenty for the spectator to do.
Meal Arrangements: There is a café serving hot and cold meals within the centre building. There is also a waterside pub (although it is recommended not to drink alcohol whilst participating in Watersports). There are plenty of places to enjoy a packed lunch.
Weather Restrictions: We will continue with the course only if it is safe to do so.
Other information: Dale has an excellent water quality and is a blue flag beach.
